This is the second time this has happened to me. I have an HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 all-in-one printer that has the Insta Ink option. The first time when I first purchased this printer, I didn't sign up for Insta Ink. After I ran out of the ink sent to me, I purchased ink elsewhere. The printer started not working properly until I signed up for Insta Ink. However, I haven't used my printer in a year or two but was still paying for the Insta Ink, and when it ran out, I was charged for a bunch of paper usage. However, I did not use the printer in a couple of years, and I thought since I was paying for this option that I would have ink ready to ship, and I was confused as to why I was being charged extra.
So I got pissed and cancelled my Insta Ink subscription. I purchased the recommended HP ink. Regardless, since then, I haven't been able to use my printer. I spent 4 hours today trying to figure it out. I did everything they told me to do, and it still won't print, but I bet my bottom dollar if I sign back up for Insta Ink it'll work just like the last time. I spent a lot of money on this printer, and it sucks that it won't work unless I sign back up for the Insta Ink.
HP is a bunch of scammers, and they take advantage of their customers. They're a bunch of scammers!
User's recommendation: I'd highly NOT recomend HP especially if it has an Insta Ink option.
Monetary Loss: $1000.

Hewlett Packard Pros: Its a decent printer.
Hewlett Packard Cons: Scammers.

“The delay wasn’t caused by the age of the printer or ‘lack of office supplies.’ It was caused by HP disabling printer functionality when an Instant Ink subscription is inactive — even when genuine HP cartridges are installed. HP support confirmed this by instructing me to reinstall Instant Ink cartridges before they would continue troubleshooting. That policy is the issue being reviewed.”
Why the $1000 loss? It sold for around $475, new, with no subscription.
Which warrants the question, why did you allegedly pay full price only to later sign up for their ink program? You get a HUGE discount on the printer by signing up at purchase.
In addition, that specific model is from 2016 and was discontinued mid-2022. Your little story doesn't add up.
Because I had a project that I was working on and My insta Ink ran out. I contacted the company asking them where my refills were and they told me i would have it within a week, However i didn't receive the Ink until 2 and a half weeks later and I lost the job because it went over the project deadline.
That's when I called them and canceled the Insta Ink. They even wanted me to pay for the extra paper usage that I went over. I explained to them I was trying to print something to get to my client so I can try and delay the project for another week until I received the ink. I didn't receive the ink until I canceled the subscription and then I tried using their ink but printer wouldn't work because of that, I then spent 75.00 on different ink and neither of the inks work.
In all reality, I should add another 75.00 onto what I lost in total and that wasn't including the price of the printer. That was my loss of the Job and Client.
You need to invest in better equipment.
No *** Any suggestions?
Your potential client dodged a bullet if a 9 year old discontinued printer, your lack of office supplies and reliance on mail-order ink caused a time delay.
Actually I should be suing them for the lose of the project, Client and any other projects I would have gotten.
I will not ever buy any HP products!!!!!!! I really hate that company.
