Update billing

I was cut off from my previous call. I need to update my billing information. Sounds like something simple to do, but obviously not.

Preferred solution: My billing updated.

Do not honor warranties

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I bought an HP desktop computer 10 months ago. This month, the computer stopped working.

I called support and they tried to instruct me how to fix the computer but nothing would work. Then said they would send me a flash drive if I paid them $44. I didn't have any choice. It was either throw away a $600 computer or pay the fee.

So, what does a warranty mean to HP?

Nothing. You're on your own when you buy a HP product.

Loss:
$644
Cons:
  • Do not honor warranties

Preferred solution: Price reduction

User's recommendation: Buy an outside insurance policy or do not buy a HP product.

Where is my refund?

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I noticed two charges on my statement: one for 1181 and one for 741 from HP. So I called there, and they said it was for the printer.

I looked at my email, and it said they wanted payment for a printer that I paid off last year that was stolen and the account was closed. So I called, and the girl said I had to make a payment on this; that's what it was for. I kept trying to tell her that I already paid it, and it was last year. It's been closed since.

I asked, 'Well, what was the other charge for?' I looked in an email, and they billed me for an old printer that I haven't even used in over a year. Why did they even turn that on? I didn't even turn on that service. So anyway, this girl is arguing with me about the 1181 payment for the printer that I already paid off, and I said to send me the email on that—just send me an email—and then she sent me one email with a file, and the file was blank.

So I called back over there, and they said I had to send screenshots of whatever; some girl was trying to help me because this was like the sixth time I was calling in there because it kept transferring me between HP Instant Ink and All-in-One Plan. The printer was on the All-in-One Plan, and that was for my old printer. They put it on an All-in-One Plan—why they did that, I don't know. Who opened that account?

I don't know. Then she said to find out if it was from Instant Ink who billed them or if it was the All-in-One Plan, but the bill said Instant Ink. So anyway, I got off the phone with her because I felt bad. I didn't want her to wait while I was sitting here trying to go through my statements to find them, and I figured after that it wouldn't be any problem once I figured out who billed me wrong.

So we're going to get another email, I'm assuming from that girl who was arguing with me, who said, 'Oh, this account was closed.' Hello, that's what I've been saying! Then she said I still owe for this account, for the one that I don't know who turned on. I said I don't even know where this account is, and I said the guy told me when I paid it off because I wanted to get another printer. She said I should just open up another email account and get a different printer.

I said, 'Okay, find the soonest,' which I did. The printer I bought had three months of free printing on it, and then I signed it up for the paper. I figured, 'Oh good, it's the same paper when I run out of ink, so I'm all set.' That's what I thought. So I never got any paper, so I canceled it.

I figured that my printer was still on because I had three months of free ink, but they turned off the service because I didn't pay for the paper. I think I got one or two months free; I can't remember on the paper, but I canceled it before it was supposed to bill me because I never got any paper. So then they turned off my service, and I couldn't print anything. I'm still fighting with them about the refund.

I said I want my money back on this 11.81 for this printer, you know, and all this blah blah blah. I just got frustrated and said, 'Okay, you know what, just never mind and close everything. I don't want you; I don't want your paper; I don't want anything.' I said, 'Just close everything and make sure everything's okay.' So we'll see if both of those payments are for paper. How much does paper cost?

I think I was on the 1.99 plan, and that was canceled, so I don't know where they're coming from. I can't get a straight answer, and I keep getting transferred. I must have made phone calls to these people, and then after I told her I just canceled it and I said I didn't want to talk to anybody anymore, I just hung up the phone. She sent me an email to my other email—two different emails about that account.

What is going on? Oh, and then they sent me a $30 gift card to Sniffed or something like that for Fabletics. No thanks.

So everything's unresolved, right back where I was. I'm just pissed off going to talk to them.

Loss:
$19
Pros:
  • I thought it was convenient to do instant ink
Cons:
  • Dealing with an hp customer service with instant ink so it seems to always be a problem and i always thought it would be a real nice convenient to always have ink for the printer

Preferred solution: Full refund

Abysmal Order Support

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

HP direct. Search hp.com for your superseded printer model.

Site reports you need ink cartridges for the new model. Wrong. Order the ink. Try to resolve with support.

Totally and utterly useless Indian call center. Lazy ignorant "support" reps, like nearly every corporation. Shareholder value over customer satisfaction.

Empty promise to help when it's their own fault and no one is running the show.

Reported to the Justice dept for unfair and monopolistic business practices. This kind of slop isn't going to fly.

HP left me hanging with 6 new ink cartridges that I now have to throw away.

Hewlett Packard - HP left me hanging with 6 new ink cartridges that I now have to throw...

Beware of HP's subscription scam! I bought an HP DeskJet 2855e with a trial subscription to HP's Instant Ink program. I continued for three months, then canceled when I realized I had 8 months' worth of ink stockpiled. That's when HP pulled the plug; my printer stopped working entirely. Turns out, the ink I physically own and already paid for is rendered useless the moment you cancel your subscription. HP Support confirmed this and basically said my options were:

1. Buy third-party ink (which HP claims isn't as reliable)

2. Go back to their subscription service

This is blatant consumer manipulation. I paid for that ink; HP has no right to disable it just because I opted out of their program. This isn't just bad business; it's straight-up unethical. If you value your money and the right to use what you buy, stay away from HP printers. I won't make this mistake again. #HP #InstantInk #ConsumerRights #ScamAlert #AntiConsumer Your money, your choice.

Pros:
  • Acceptable printer
Cons:
  • Strings attached to your purchase to require you to subscribe

Preferred solution: Full refund

User's recommendation: If you value your money and the right to use what you buy, stay away from HP printers

You did not read what you agreed to. It is clearly stated in the TOS.

Guess what it also said that permanent changes were made to your printers firmware that is not reversible. You printer has to always connected to the internet and you can no longer use 3rd party cartridges.

All in the Terms of Service. .

Guest

Actually the only one scamming is you. You did not pay full price for that ink.

You stockpiled the ink while on their subscription plan and thought you made out big time.

All of this is covered in the terms and conditions you did not read before signing up. #lightweight

I did not receive help in setting up my printer which I just purchased. I was on hold in Chat for about three hours. I returned the printer to Target. I will purchase a competitor printer.

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I was told they needed to get an expert to help me. The printer model was an HP DeskJet 4255e.

Do you not have qualified or competent people working in customer service? Target asked me the reason for my return, and I said I did not receive help from customer service in getting the printer set up.

Customer service sucks. ON line servicing is deceptive, incorrect and non-functional. The web site advertises 24 hour 7 days a week and IT IS NOT!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I placed an order on 09/12/25. I got a confirmation that did not include an order number.

The HP website did not recognize my search for an order status. Their customer service section on line advertises 7 day 24 hour access. It does not provide that.

I have demanded cancellation of the order a number of times and received NO confirmation. Their whole operation is pitiful.

User's recommendation: DO NOT buy HP

Unhappy with customer service

I am not unhappy with the people at HP. But their system is awful.

Thius is my experience.

4/11 Case #514******** , call @ 12:30 pm 1hr. 20 min. After extensive trouble-shooting, HP decided to send a replacement printer. I received an order no: BXBY7229-0.

4/15 Case #514158****.

Call @ 8:08 am 1 hr 47 min. The printer arrived on April 14. After following the set-up instructions to the letter I found that the printer would not work and kept giving error notices (cannot remember what they said). I called HP.

Trouble -shooting ensued. Conclusion was that the SETUP cartridges that came with the printer were defective. A replacement set would be sent immediately. I received four separate order nos: BXBZ4203-1, et seq.

Since we were departing for Ireland the next day I could do nothing more until May 29.

After our return from Ireland, I found two sets of cartridges in our mail when I got home. One consisted of the four separate orders mentioned above.

The other was a cardboard Instant Ink box with four cartridges inside. The Post Office had written 5/23/25 on the box. I assume this was a printer ink delivery triggered by my Instant Ink subscription unrelated to the issues I have been having, but I was not aware of that when I opened it.

I thought HP had sent me two sets of replacement cartridges by mistake. There was no order no.

I opened the separate ink shipments (one for each color), inserted them in the printer and got this error message: Use SETUP cartridges that came with your printer. I also opened the instant Ink order and tried those cartridges in the printer with the same result.

5/29. Call to 844-814-**** @ 5:42 pm 34 min.

On May 29 I called an HP number and spent ½ hour with a tech who advised me that I would need another SETUP cartridge order because the ones I was using were defective. He said they would come within two weeks. I begged for a quicker delivery but got nowhere and finally said OK. On June 2, when I called HP to try to speed up delivery, they had no record of this call and I never received a case number.

I traced the number to HP Smartfriend Services. They use the HP trademark but I do not think they are part of HP. No ink ever came. How that scam is supposed to work is a mystery.

6/2 Case #514375**** Call @9:09 am 1 hr.1 min.

As mentioned above, I called HP. The call took over an hour but almost all of that was taken up with call transfers. After a short conversation with a tech I was advised that another set of SETUP cartridges would be sent out because the ones I was using were defective. I received four separate order nos: BXDP0709-01, et seq.

6/5.

Case # 514******** Call@ 2:31 pm 40 min. I opened the four separate ink shipments (one for each color), inserted them in the printer and got the same old error message: Use SETUP cartridges that came with your printer. I called HP. After some trouble shooting, we were disconnected.

I was assured that I would get a call back if this happened, but I did not get one.

6/6 Case #514400****. Call @ 9:26 am 1 hr. 25 min. I spoke to Jose, after some call transfers, who tried various trouble-shooting maneuvers and finally concluded that the printer head must be defective.

He is sending a new one. He said I would have to wait at least until June 11 for the delivery.

I pleaded with him for an expedited order. He said this was the best he could do and gave me an order #BXDQ4417-1.

Warranty

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Hewlett Packard - Warranty
Contains 2 confidential files for company representatives

Very dismayed, this is the third time I've had an issue with HP's warranty. I bought a laptop back in 2023 with a 3-year warranty, due to being accident-prone.

But every time I sent the laptop in to get fixed, I was told that I would have to pay for repairs. Both other times, I was able to figure things out. One being months after it happened, only when I told them I wanted to speak with a supervisor, and the second after leaving a bad review.

This time they are telling me you can only use the warranty once per year and that I will have to pay, even though I waited until 2025 to send it in to get fixed. This is unprofessional and quite honestly, just a waste of my time.

Loss:
$1022
Pros:
  • Nice laptop
Cons:
  • Warranty violated
  • Warranty can only be used one a year
  • Terrible warranty

Preferred solution: Full refund

My printer is broken. The ink cartridge cannot move, as a small wheel is broken.

Called to cancel subscription and was hung upon twice due to automated system. Not very satisfied at all.
